More About the Daylong

In Buddhist teachings, there is a story of a person being carried by currents in a strong river, reaching for reeds and branches that cannot keep them from being washed further down stream. This reflects how, when we feel agitated or out of sorts, we often cling to familiar thoughts, tendencies, feelings, and identities, even when they no longer help.

In this daylong retreat we’ll explore this metaphor as a way to better understand ourselves, our nervous system and how the body responds to stress. We’ll also look at how the Dharma works hand in hand with this desire for a felt sense of safety, offering practical guidance for meeting difficulties with awareness, kindness, and wisdom. Together, these perspectives help us recognize our survival patterns as natural, intelligent efforts to find stability and protection.

Throughout the day, you’ll be invited to slow down, practice, and notice your direct experience. Through guided meditations, mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing® techniques, relational practices, guided inquiry, and group reflection, you’ll learn to tune into sensation, move at a supportive pace, and create the conditions for your system to settle and restore balance so that wisdom can emerge.

As steadiness deepens, insight and choice become more accessible. This retreat is open to everyone, and all practices are gentle, optional, and adaptable to your individual needs.
